"The Times of India", India on 03rd April 2012 : Following cash-for-job scam in UT education department, Mohali district police have booked two government teachers, Kewal Chand and Sukhjinder Kaur for getting jobs by submitting fake education degrees. The criminal case under the charges of forgery and cheating against two teachers was registered at Mataur police station on March 30.

Fake degree racket busted, 5 held

"The Indian EXPRESS", India on 22nd March 2012 : A day after unearthing a nine-member gang involved in making fake educational and other documents, UT (Union Territory) Police SIT (Special Investigation Team) busted a four-member gang also involved in supplying fake degrees. The main accused Mukta Sharma (38) was serving as a director of a trust. Her husband Vikas Sharma was assisting her in the business. Kalpana, a Sector 23 resident, who was working as a manager at the sub-office and Naveed Anjum (32), an agent, have been arrested. In addition one of their clients have also been arrested. The four-member gang, had been operating from two offices- a sub office in Sector 35 and a main office being run under the name of Sai Service Education in Zirakpur.

Fake degree racket busted

"The Indian Express", India on 04th March 2012 : Four persons, including a woman, were arrested on Saturday for an alleged scam of providing fake degrees and certificates to candidates to “enhance their resumes”. The arrests came following a complaint filed by a freelance journalist for a Hindi news channel after a sting operation at Jagannath Institute of Management and Technology in Netaji Subhash Place on February 29. “The arrested have been identified as Sanjay Chaudhary (32), Bhanu (23), Somaya Samantra (22) and Naveen,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Romil Baaniya.

University declares nine officers' degrees as fake

"PakTribune", Pakistan on 20th February 2012 : The Sindh University has declared degrees of nine officers of the Accountant General (AG) Sindh as fake. According to the sources, these nine officers were appointed by the then Director General (DG) Audit in 2007 in Audit Department and they were transferred to the office of Accountant General Sindh after two years with important responsibilities and some of them were transferred to other cities of Sindh. The sources said that those who were appointed on fake degrees are kith and kin of each other and three of them are real brothers. The names of those who were appointed are Asif Aftab s/o Aftab Ali Setho, Farhan Ahmad s/o Ghulam Murtaza Setho, Shiraz Ahmad s/o Madid Ali Setho, Javed Ahmad s/o Aftab Ahmad Setho, Mujeebur Rehman s/o Mumtaz Ali Setho, Shahzada Saeed Ahmad s/o Raees Aftab Ahmad Setho, Shahzada Shaukat Ali s/o Raish Ahmad Setho, Ziaur Rehman s/o Mumtaz Ali Setho and Adnan Pasha s/o Aftab Ali Setho.

Five female MPAs booked over fake degrees

"Daily Times", Pakistan on 21st January 2012 : Police on Friday registered cases of fraud and deception against five female members of the Punjab Assembly for submitting fake copies of their bachelor’s degrees in the Election Commission. The MPAs had submitted the copies to get reserve seats in the assembly. The five cases with the same charges were registered by the Islampura (Krishan Nagar) police under the Pakistan Penal Code sections 199, 200, 471 and the Representation of People’s Act sections 78, 82, 94. The cases were registered on the complaint of Punjab Deputy Election Commissioner Ishtiaq Ahmad Rana. Four of the five MPAs are from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. They are Farah Deeba, Afshan Farooq, Samina Aziz and Naseem Nasir. The other MPA is Safina Saima of the Pakistan People’s Party.

"indianexpress.com", India on 25th December 2011 : Three persons were arrested in Allahabad for allegedly being involved in a fake marksheets racket operating out of a cyber cafe in Mumfordganj area. The accused also used to prepare forged degrees of other universities, bank guarantees for contractors and other documents and certificates. The role of a lawyer, practicing in High Court and lower courts, is also being investigated in this connection. Acting on tip-off, a team of Kotwali police arrested two persons, Ransher Tewatia, a resident of Hapur, and Sunil, a resident of Baghpat, from near Government Inter College in Rambagh area on Friday.

"daijiworld.com", India on 17th September 2011 : Three people, accused of making fake educational certificates and degrees, were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district, police said Saturday. Govind, Ankit and Rajendra – all in their late 30s – were nabbed from Bramapuri area Friday night following a joint operation by the Special Operations Group and the district police. "We raided a hideout and recovered over 500 fake degrees, certificates and mark sheets of law, engineering, business administration and other programmes," police inspector Alok Sharma told reporters in Meerut, some 450 km from here.

Cops busts bogus degree racket

"daily.bhaskar.com", India on 11th September 2011 : In a major crackdown, police has busted a gang involved with the Punjab State Education Board in the making of fake degrees. The police has arrested a member of the gang which used to provide fake degrees of class XII, X and VIII. The police has also recovered five fake degrees from the possession of the gang member. The gang used to sell these at a price of between Rs. 20,000 and 30,000. Talking to the reporters during a press conference on Saturday, SP D Jagtar Singh Kanth said, "The accused Nirbhay Singh is a native of Dayalpur (Bhatinda). He had a close nexus with the Punjab State Education Board officials and with their help, he used to get the fake degrees readied."

Patiala police busts fake degree racket

"timesofindia.indiatimes.com", India on 06th September 2011 : Patiala police has busted an interstate gang involved in sale of fake degrees. The police have detected sale of 1,700 to 1,800 fake degrees of various courses by the three arrested accused. As per police, on Sunday evening the CIA branch of police raided Barren bus stand and arrested Balvir, Gurmeet and Gurpreet Singh and seized six fake degrees of BA, BTech, secondary school and mechanical engineering course. The accused had allegedly come to deliver the degrees to their purchasers. Another gang member Jaswinder Singh is absconding.

Police uncovers fake degree scam

"timesofindia.indiatimes.com", India on 07th August 2011 : A gang that faked Jamia Milia Islamia University degrees to 'help' people land jobs with BPOs and other private firms in NCR was busted and five members arrested. Three of the accused were found to be corporate sector employees. Cops seized 30 fake degrees and marksheets belonging to various courses like BA, BCom, BTech and MBA. "We have also recovered seven blank migration certificates, two fake rubber stamps and logo embossing stamps of Jamia; twenty blank sheets meant for preparing marksheets; and many other incriminating documents, including registration certificates of transport authorities of various states and VISA stickers," said Sandeep Goel, joint commissioner of police (crime). The accused have been identified as Nimesh Pruthi (29), Martin (35), Atif (28), Rehan Khan (26) and Jitender (32).

90-year-old under scanner for allegedly producing at least 50,000 fake doctors

A 90-year-old man, undeterred by a jail sentence, has churned out fake medical degrees in near-industrial quantities becoming, arguably, the single biggest operator of his kind in the country. Medical authorities and the government have put Balwant Rai Arora under the scanner for allegedly producing at least 50,000 fake doctors in Delhi and the NCR over the last 15 years – since 1995, when he began his racket. All these 'degrees' have been given by the so-called Delhi Medical College, a fake institute which he runs from his home in Vipin Garden in the Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi.
