"thenews.com.pk", Pakistan on 16th August 2011 : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza has given deadline to Federal Minister Sardar Israr Ullah Zehri to prove the authenticity of his degree till September 24 failing which a case for fraud would be registered against him. The CEC has directed the employees of election commission that the case regarding bogus educational degrees might be finalized at an early date so that action may be taken against bogus degree holder parliamentarians under the instructions of the Supreme Court.

High Court reserves its verdict in the fake degree of Prime Minister’s friend

“tribune.com.pk”, Pakistan on 20th April 2011 : The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday reserved its verdict in the fake degree case against Zain Sukhera, a key accused in the Hajj corruption case and a friend of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son. During the hearing of the case, Sukhera’s lawyer argued that only a university could declare a degree bogus and the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) did not have the authority in this matter……Sukhera, a former consultant in Ministry of Information and Technology, was accused of involvement in the Hajj scam and holding a fake LLB degree from Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan. A case was registered against him on November 12, 2010.

“Indian Express”, India on 04th January 2010 : A series of complaints and strikes by a teachers’ union has forced the Education Department to take action against five teachers who allegedly furnished bogus degree certificates. According to the complaints filed by the Teachers’ Democratic Front (TDF), these teachers still managed to work in two reputed schools in the suburbs for over a decade. Following the verification of their certificates and degrees, the department has declared that action will be initiated against Bhuvendra Pratap Singh, Birjuram Yadav and Awdhesh Kumar Girijashankar Shukla of the Swami Vivekananda English High School at Jogeshwari as well as Shyamlal Yadav and Dayashankar Tiwari of Goregaon’s Jawahar Hindi Vidyalaya.

“Daily News & Analysis”, India on 27th November 2010 : The Mumbai university, which has detected 342 fake documents including degree certificates and marksheets, has alleged that the BKC police station is refusing to accept all cases, thereby delaying the matter. University officials have alleged that the police are asking the examination department to file each case in the respective police stations where the holder of the fake document lives. ……..On Friday too, university officials had to face lot of difficulties before the police lodged an FIR against one Sanjay Patel, who has been using a bogus Bachelor of Commerce marksheet, dated 1982.

Court initiates proceeding against minister in bogus degree case

Business Recorder, Pakistan on 15th October, 2010 : Lahore High Court here on Thursday initiated ex parte proceedings in a petition seeking disqualification of provincial minister Farooq Yousaf Ghurki for contesting elections allegedly on a bogus degree. The court observed that the respondent, Ghurki, has been served notices several times but he failed to appear before the court. It further held that on September 20, last notice was served to the respondent through a citation/advertisement in local newspapers but again, no one appeared in the court on his behalf. Yousaf Ghurki, PPP MPA and minister Information and Technology had contested election from PP-159. A UC Nazim Iftikhar Ahmed approached the LHC, alleging that Ghurki presented a bogus BA degree to election commission for contesting elections. He alleged that Ghurki appeared in the examination of Matric in 1990 and got BA degree in 1992 from Punjab University. He contended that the respondent used bogus FA certificate for appearing in the BA examination, as he had not passed FA examination must for sitting in BA examination.
