"Deccan Herald", India on 15th May 2012 : The Bhadravathi Rural Police on Tuesday arrested six persons on the charge of creating fake marks cards and other certificates of the Kuvempu University. Police gave the names of the arrested as Shivakumar, Doodyanaik, Ramu, Siddachari, Devaraj and Shashikumar. The first four are permanent employees of the university and the others are on contract. The arrests were made after raids at eight locations in the vicinity of the university at Shankaraghatta.

School teacher sacked for fake degree

"IBN Live", India on 15th May 2012 : A school teacher has been dismissed from service after his Post Graduate degree on the basis of which he secured a promotion was found to be fake while action has been taken against two others on similar grounds. The erring teacher's Master of Arts degree was found to be fake, officials said. Radhey Shyam was posted as a Social Studies teacher in Government Senior Secondary School, Asiaki Panchore in Rewari district.

"tuoitrenews.vn", Vietnam on 15th May 2012 : A district trial court in the central province of Quang Binh sentenced Monday a preschool principal to two years in prison for trading in fake academic diplomas. One of her teachers was handed a 18-month suspended sentence for the same conviction. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, the principal, discovered in August 2010 that Tran Thi Hoai, the other indictee, had used forged academic transcripts and diplomas to secure a job at her school, which is located in Quang Trach District.

"The Korea Herald", South Korea on 06th May 2012 : Scott Thompson’s reign as Yahoo’s CEO is in jeopardy after just four months on the job because he allowed an inaccuracy about his academic credentials to recur for years. A major Yahoo shareholder who exposed the fabrication is now leading the charge to oust Thompson for unethical conduct. In a letter Friday, activist hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb demanded that the board of the struggling Internet company fire Thompson by noon EDT Monday or face possible legal action.

"The Daily Star", Bangladesh on 03rd May 2012 : A mobile court jailed for two years six persons on charge of forging certificates and selling those to people at capital's Uttara on Thursday. Executive magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha aided by a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-1) personnel operated the drive on the ground floor of SR Tower in Sector-7 of Uttara in the afternoon. All the six convicts — Alamgir Malek, 24, of Mymensingh, Saiful Islam, 35, of Jhalakathi, Al Amin, 18, of Patuakhali, Mohammad Ashraful, 30, of Gazipur, Mohammad Liton, 21, of Narsingdi and Helal Ahmed, 26, of Comilla — were sent to Dhaka central jail, the magistrate told The Daily Star……"The criminals had been making fake certificates of SSC and HSC levels alongside voter IDs, nationality certificates, birth registration certificates and testimonials".

"The Indian EXPRESS", India on 30th April 2012 : Acting on a tip-off, the city police on Sunday arrested five people for allegedly printing and selling fake certificates and marksheets for Classes VIII and X of the Punjab State Education Board. With the arrests, the police claim to have busted a gang that sold fake certificates. Among the five held on Sunday are two superintendents with the education board and another individual, who runs a tea stall just out the board’s head office in Mohali.

"novinite.com", Bulgaria on 27th April 2012 : The indictment against Kalina Ilieva, the notorious former head of Bulgaria's Agriculture Fund, charged with forging her university diploma, has been tabled, Sofia prosecutors announced. Ilieva faces up to eight years in prison over the fake master's degree diploma scandal. The young woman is also charged with forging four other documents claiming she had graduated from the University of Engineering and Economics in Berlin.

Vice Dean resigns over bogus academic credentials

"THE CHRONICLE", USA on 26th April 2012 : A vice dean at the University of Pennsylvania resigned on Thursday after it was revealed that he had misrepresented his academic credentials. Douglas E. Lynch, vice dean of the university's Graduate School of Education, quit after having falsely claimed on his resume that he received a doctoral degree in philosophy, economics, and education from Columbia University. Penn officials initially told The Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday that they had known about the misrepresentation for several months, had levied "appropriate sanctions," and had decided to keep Mr. Lynch in his leadership role. But later on Wednesday, after an Inquirer reporter sought comment from Amy Gutmann, Penn's president, the university changed its tune and immediately placed Mr. Lynch on leave "pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation."

“The News”, Pakistan on 24th April 2012 : The district and sessions court on Monday declared the BA degree of Kishore Kumar, who is a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) minority member, Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa provincial assembly, fake. The police arrested the minority Member of National Assembly (MPA) and shifted him to the district central jail as Session Judge Justice Shahjahan Khan awarded Kishore Kumar one year imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs15,000.

“The Telegraph”, United Kingdom on 22nd April 2012 : Susan Kelly, 45, was in charge of a team of other carers unsupervised by doctors at an NHS walk-in centre after telling her employers she had a degree. But after investigation it was discovered she had dropped out of her university studies and then, along with her husband Mark Darren Kelly, forged her qualifications to get the job. She was jailed for eight months in May last year after admitting fraud, while her husband Mark Darren Kelly received a suspended prison sentence.

“Daily Monitor”, Uganda on 20th April 2012 : The Crime Investigation Department of police is investigating Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) former Managing Director Edward Musinguzi-Mugasa over allegedly falsifying academic documents to acquire entry to Makerere University. Following the revelation, sources at UBC say the broadcaster has stopped paying Mr Mugasa his part salary, which he had been receiving after he was suspended, following a directive by President Museveni. CID Director Grace Akullo confirmed the investigation claim but declined to give further details: ?The file is in its advance stages.?

"Business RECORDER", Pakistan on 18th April 2012 : The Lahore High Court has appointed a bar member Azhar Siddique as amicus curie in a petition seeking disqualification of a sitting PML-N MNA (Member of the National Assembly) Rao Mazhar Hayat Khan whose BA degree had been proved fake and an FIR was also registered against him. The court asked the lawyer to assist on legal points whether the seat of an MNA will remain vacant or election commission was required to adopt a procedure under Representation of Peoples Act 1976 if affidavit of the parliamentarian submitted at the time of filing of nomination papers was proved as fake.
