Authorities bust bogus certificate racket

"Times of India", India on 31st January 2012 : Police on Monday claimed to have busted a fake marksheet racket with the arrest of four people in Washermenpet. Seals of various government departments and some screen printing equipment were seized. Jayaraman (62) of Kalmantapam in Royapuram, Perumal (72) of Royapuram, Durai Paul (52) of Neithvoyal in Ponneri and Murthy (40) of Thangal near Tiruvottiyur, who were running the racket for nearly three years, were nabbed based on a complaint from Arunkumar (28) of VOC Nagar in Washermenpet. The accused were later remanded in judicial custody.

"Times of India", India on 27th January 2012 : Police today claimed to have busted a gang involved in selling fake mark-sheets and degrees to students with the arrest of three persons. Diwan Narendra, Vikram and Krishna Kant were nabbed with bundles of fake mark-sheets and degrees of both under-graduate and post-graduate levels of Devi Ahilya University, City Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh said.

Authorities bust fake certificate racket

"IBN Live", India on 26th January 2012 : The Task Force police arrested one person involved in selling fake certificates of various universities to candidates. Police also recovered a number of fake certificates from the accused. According to police, Task Force sleuths on Wednesday apprehended the accused Sangoji Sreenivasa Chary, who was procuring fake educational certificates from various universities. The accused Chary, a native of Ongole, had set up the Tejaswi Distance Educational centre in June 2003 in Flat No 303 at Sarala Apartments in SR Nagar. Police said the accused got his institute selected as a regional examination centre of the concerned university and conduct exams.

Four held for forgery, making fake documents

"Times of Zambia", Zambia on 26th January 2012 : Police in Lusaka yesterday arrested four people for forgery and making fake documents such as school certificates, university degrees and title deeds. Zambia police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela named the four as Samuel Muyunda, aged 38 of Chawama, Bonnet Kaluma, 58, of house number 16188 Jack Township, Emelda Bwalya, 39, of Matero and Visto Chinyama, 44, of Chipata overspill. Ms Kanjela said police had conducted an operation on January 20, and found that the four had made fake documents of eight copies of school certificates, two diplomas and four degrees for students at the University of Zambia, University of Namibia, ZCAS, NIPA, CBU, 34 fake title deeds and pay slips.

IntеrеѕtіngƖу, thеу аrе brothers. Those arrested hаνе bееn identified аѕ Abdul Khaliq, Mohammed Mansha, Abdul Ghani аnd Mohammed Rashid. Reports ѕаіd thаt Police received information thаt ѕοmе employees οf PWD (R&B) Rajouri hаd managed government Jobs οn thе basis οf fаkе certificates. Five female MPAs booked over fake degrees

"Daily Times", Pakistan on 21st January 2012 : Police on Friday registered cases of fraud and deception against five female members of the Punjab Assembly for submitting fake copies of their bachelor’s degrees in the Election Commission. The MPAs had submitted the copies to get reserve seats in the assembly. The five cases with the same charges were registered by the Islampura (Krishan Nagar) police under the Pakistan Penal Code sections 199, 200, 471 and the Representation of People’s Act sections 78, 82, 94. The cases were registered on the complaint of Punjab Deputy Election Commissioner Ishtiaq Ahmad Rana. Four of the five MPAs are from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. They are Farah Deeba, Afshan Farooq, Samina Aziz and Naseem Nasir. The other MPA is Safina Saima of the Pakistan People’s Party.

"Times of India", India on 15th January 2012 : An MGNREGA programme officer, currently posted at Bahadurganj in Kishanganj district, has landed in the soup following disclosure about his qualification under the Right To Information (RTI) Act. MGNREGA programme officer Ranjit Kumar Pramanik secured the job allegedly on the basis of a 'fake' MBA certificate, according to a response to the RTI. The officer had submitted MBA certificate claiming that he had obtained the MBA degree from L N Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change, Patna. He was an alumnus of the institute in the 1998-2000 session and the marksheet he submitted bore his roll number as 032 and registration no 11532/98.

Councillor booked for furnishing forged documents to election authorities

"Times of India", India on 16th January 2012 : Ballarpur Police have registered offence against newly elected councillor Nasir Khan for furnishing forged documents to election authorities while submitting his nomination. Khan, a second time councillor, is absconding after the charges of cheating and forgery were registered against him. Sources informed that social worker Megha Dhale sought documents through Right to Information (RTI) Act to uncover Khan's trickery. Khan had won the election from the seat reserved for the OBC category. However, it turned out that he had on various occasions forged his mark sheets and transfer certificates of the different schools to get admission into higher classes after being failed.

Six forged certificates to secure job

"Times of India", India on 12th January 2012: Bosch India on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Satpur police against six trainees working in the company for producing forged certificates to get a job. As per the police complaint, Samir Bramhankar, resident of Dindori Road, Panchavati; Shaikh Afroz Sattar, resident of Datta Chowk, Nashik; Rahul Pawar, resident of Satana, Nashik; Prashant Pawar, resident of Satana; Mahesh Ahire of Nashik Road; and Ravindrakumar Shinde of Panchavati had produced fake certificates of different technical trades to get employment in the company. All the six trainees worked in the company from March 3, 2010 to September 15, 2011 and got a job by producing forged certificates, the police complaint said.

Prisoner accused of starting a fake university

"Mail Online", United Kingdom on 12th January 2012: A conman is accused of starting a fake university and churning out fake diplomas – while in prison. Kenneth Shong, 45, who is currently serving time in a Wisconsin prison appeared in court on Tuesday to face a fraud charge, years after the complex scheme was uncovered. He is alleged to have worked with associates outside the prison walls to operate a suspected diploma mill that was recruiting students for at least two years before investigators caught on.

Fake degree holder secures job as IT consultant

"Daily Times", Pakistan on 09th January 2012: One of the country’s most prestigious educational institutions, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), has a bogus intermediate degree holder as IT Consultant at Khwarzmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) since 2009, Daily Times learnt on Sunday. According to documents available with Daily Times, Muhammad Iftikhar’s admission was also cancelled by the Punjab University’s College of Information Technology (PUCIT) in 2009 for having a bogus intermediate degree.

University professor accused of producing fake certificate

"Deccan Chronicle", India on 05th January 2012: Yet another controversy has surfaced in Bangalore University (BU). This time it concerns the appointment of a professor in the electronic media department, who is being accused of producing a fake National Eligibility Test (NET) certificate to get the plum post. Mr Sripathy Tirupathy , who was appointed assistant professor in the department of electronic media in 2008, claimed to have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) in communication in 1999 and also produced several experience certificates, including that of a stint as a guest lecturer in BU's own electronic media department , to back his application for the post.
