Disciplinary action taken against two for using fake diploma

"tuoitrenews.vn", Vietnam on 27th October 2011 : The Party Committee’s Commission for Inspection in Tu Nghia District, Quang Ngai Province, has given a warning to two leaders of the Nghia My commune for using fake high school diplomas. The disciplined officials are Luong Phuoc Hong, the secretary of the commune Party Committee, and Nguyen Minh Tan, chairman of the commune People’s Committee. To meet the qualifications required for the position they held, the two men had borrowed the real diplomas from their acquaintances, erased the diploma holders’ name, and took out the photos and other personal details. Then they put in their own names, attached their own photos and claimed the degree was theirs, the commission said.

Vice chairperson apprehended over academic papers fraud

"ugpulse.com", Uganda on 27th October 2011 : The Iganga LC V Vice Chairperson, Mariam Nangobi has been arrested over alleged forgery of academic papers. Nangobi was picked up by the police from a workshop at the district headquarters and taken to Iganga Central Police Station. She is accused of presenting a fake senior four certificate to the council which approved her appointment. Nangobi had told the councilors that she obtained this certificate from Bukoyo Senior Secondary School but investigations revealed that she never studied from the said school.

Fake degree racket busted, 2 arrested

"thehindu.com", India on 26th October 2011 : Bhongir Town Police on Tuesday arrested two persons and seized machinery of a DTP centre at Jeedimetla in Chintal along with several fake certificates and ID cards. According to Bhongir DSP M. Yadaiah, arrested persons were Bharatraj, owner of the DTP unit, and Sambasiva Rao, worker in a chemical factory at Basavapuram. Rao had taken a fake degree certificate from Bharatraj for his fellow worker Balraj, after paying Rs.3,000.

Land officer sentenced to 9 months for forging academic documents

"mobile.monitor.co.ug", Uganda on 25th October 2011 : The Jinja District Lands Officer, Aisha Nahabbo, will spend the next nine months in Luzira Prison after the Anti-Corruption Court found her guilty of forging her academic documents to obtain a job. The court sitting in Kampala found Nahabbo guilty of forging a second class upper Law degree from Makerere University to obtain the job in 2007. Court presided over by magistrate Sarah Langa heard that the land officer had obtained a pass degree in law from Makerere University in 1999 which she did not disclose before the Jinja District Service Commission when she applied for the job and instead presented the forged degree. The magistrate consequently convicted Nahabbo on a count of uttering false documents and sentenced her to nine months in jail.

Fake mark sheet racket busted

"assamtimes.org", India on 19th October 2011 : In a major breakthrough Kalaigaon police arrested three members of an interstate fake mark sheet and certificate racket at Kalaigaon on October 18 recently. Police recovered more than a dozen seals of various educational institutions including Guwahati University, SEBA, AHSEC, government hospitals etc. The racket had been operating at various places in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh for several years supplying fake mark sheets and pass certificates of BA,BSc, BCom of GU; SEBA; AHSEC; Third Eye College, Guwahati to people in return of huge amount of money. They had also been issuing birth certificates to any people including Bangladeshi nationals posing serious threat to ethnic population of Assam and NE.

Court quashes selection of candidate possesing fake certificate

"greaterkashmir.com",India on 16th October 2011 : High Court has quashed selection and appointment of an Anganwadi worker in Ganderbal after the Board of School Education submitted a report that the matriculation certificate produced by the candidate was fake. The Court has also asked the Senior Superintendent of Crime Branch to depute an officer, not below the rank of Dy Superintendent of Police, to probe as to how the ICDS officials of Ganderbal submitted a report before the Court, wherein they said that the certificate produced by the candidate was verified as genuine by the BOSE officials. “Submit the status report after every fortnight to the Registrar Judicial,” the Court said to the Crime Branch.

Man sentenced for using fake university diploma

"news.err.ee", Estonia on 17th October 2011 : The Parnu County Court has found a 47-year-old man guilty of presenting a fake university diploma when applying for the director position at a Parnu nursing home last year. Heinar Ipsberg was given a three year suspended sentence of two months conditional imprisonment. In addition, he has to cover the 530-euro cost of the legal proceedings, court spokeswoman Elo Kirsipuu said.

Data Entry Operator booked for issuing bogus eligibility letter on university's letterhead

"hindustantimes.com", India on 17th October 2011 : Mumbai University officials of the eligibility department lodged a police complaint against a data entry operator on Saturday for misusing the University letterhead to issue an eligibility letter to a bogus student. Officials lodged a complaint against Sandesh Manjalekar at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) police station on Saturday evening. “We have registered a case but not yet made an arrest as we are yet to find out the address,” said Vinayak Saude, senior police inspector of BKC police station.

Teacher using fake degree struck off

"coventryobserver.co.uk", United Kingdom on 14th October 2011 : A Former teacher at Ash Green School has been banned from the classroom for at least four years after producing a fake Open University degree in a bid to get a permanent job. Deborah Allen got a temporary job at the school on Ash Green Lane in August 2009 as an unqualified science teacher. But a disciplinary hearing held by the General Teaching Council on Tuesday heard in June of the following year after she had applied for a permanent position whereby concerns were raised about her knowledge of the subject and her standard of literary. After a meeting with the deputy head teacher and respresentatives of an organisation with whom she was undertaking the Residential Teacher Programme in order to attain her teacher qualifications. The Bachelor of Science certificate she provided claiming to be from Open University was checked out and found to have been forged.

Cop accused of assaulting dean for diploma fraud

"nytimes.com", USA on 10th October 2011 : For two years, an assistant dean at Iraq’s largest university received threats from a police officer: sign a fraudulent document certifying that the officer had graduated from the university, the dean was told, or he would be arrested or even killed. The dean, Dr. Rahif al-Essawi, steadfastly refused, and on the last day of exams in June, the officer followed through on the threats and beat the dean and threw him in jail, Dr. Essawi said. In Iraq, the police have long intimidated or beaten civilians, whether under Saddam Hussein or during the years since the United States invaded in 2003…..Last year, an investigation by Parliament identified more than 5,000 government officials who had lied about their education, including government ministers and members of Parliament……Shakr Karim, the police officer accused of beating the dean, had needed to prove that he was a college graduate to qualify for a promotion; he wanted to become an intelligence officer in the Interior Ministry, Dr. Essawi said. As Dr. Essawi was being driven home from work in June, a police patrol stopped the car and told him to get out.

Another incident of students using phoney marksheets

"mid-day.com", India on 11th October 2011 : 21 others had been expelled by the administration on September 14 after it was discovered that they had gained admission using forged documents. Making it look like a sequel to an episode, six more students of Ramjas College of Delhi University have been found to have taken admission on the basis of forged documents this year. A notice put up on the college notice-board on Monday, gave out names of the six students, undersigned by the principal. This is the second phase of the check undertaken by the college authorities after, not even a month ago, on September 14, the college had expelled 21 students for using phoney marksheets for securing admission.

Development Authority director (IT) accused of fake degree

"thenews.com.pk", Pakistan on 8th October 2011 : PROJECT Director (IT) Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Mansoor Butt has been appointed and has been working since August 2009 on a fake Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) degree. He has been appointed at this post by former Director General LDA Umar Rasool on a fake BCS degree of University of the Punjab issued in 1998. A complaint ha received from Assistant Director LDA Main Muhammad Ashfaq against Mansoor Butt on various issues one of which was that the BCS degree provided by him at the time of appointment to the LDA was fake and bogus.
