Students forge certificates to qualify for admission in college

"observer.org.sz", Swaziland on 24th August 2011 : Two students who forged certificates to qualify for enrolment at Ngwane Teacher’s College were sentenced to two years in jail or with an option of fine of E2000. Mbongeni Paul Thwala (33) of Ndzingeni and Nhlanhla Mfanizile Magagula (32) of Khuphuka appeared before Magistrate Musa Nxumalo for forgery and fraud. The two committed the offence on July 30. They allegedly forged an instrument in writing an ordinary level certificate which they produced to the college as a valid one issued by the Exams Council of Swaziland. They were further charged for fooling college Principal Dr Amos Mahlalela into admitting them. The two pleaded guilty and conducted their own defence. Prosecutor Fana Bhembe accepted the plea.

Woman faces charges for fake degree stamp

"emirates247.com", Abu Dhabi on 25th August 2011 : Shipra Gurung, 26-year-old Indian, has been charged with faking the attestation of, and forging, documents. Gurung now faces six months in prison in the UAE. According to a 7 Days report, Gurung claimed in court that her university degree certificate was attested with a fake stamp without her knowledge. The incident came to light when she submitted her papers to an employer in November 2009. Her previous employer lost her certificates and she then had to apply for a new one from her university in India. Gurung says she took the help of a friend for attestation by a third-party agent in India. When Gurung took it to the Sharjah Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was informed that the stamp on her degree was fake and she was taken to the police.

Fake doctor in RAB’s net

"thedailystar.net", Bangladesh on 21st August 2011 : A fake doctor was arrested yesterday at Mirpur in the capital and awarded two years' imprisonment by a mobile court. The doctor impersonator, Golam Kibria, 45, from Kushtia, was also fined Tk 3 lakh by the mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion-4. He will have to serve three more months if he fails to pay the fine. After working for a year at a medicine shop in Jessore, an HSC-passed Kibria started practising as a doctor there in 1996, said Rab's Executive Magistrate AHM Anwar Pasha. In 2003, he went to India and bought fake MBBS and MD certificates from Kolkata for Tk 12,000.

Special Operations Group busts fake certificate racket

"articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com", India on 20th August 2011 : The Panchmahal Special Operations Group (SOG) on Friday busted a fake certificate racket and arrested one person from Vejalpur village of Kalol taluka. Zakariya Haji Siddhiq Abdullah (21) was arrested for selling fake certificates and school leaving certificates. The SOG officials had received a tip-off regarding the racket following which they raided Abdullah's residence. According to police, they found eight fake school leaving certificates, fake learning licences and bogus stamps of some private schools from Abdullah's premises.

"nation.com.pk", Pakistan on 19th August 2011 : Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court Thursday disqualified the PML-Q MPA from Sahiwal, Walayat Shah Khagga, to hold membership in the Punjab Assembly. Accepting the petition of PML-N losing candidate from the same constituency PP-220, Nazar Muhammad Fatyana, the court directed the election commission to hold election on the vacant seat of Khagga within two months. The petitioner had questioned the graduation degree of his rival Walayat Shah alleging it was fake and bogus.

Task Force team arrests 'counsellor' over education racket

"timesofindia.indiatimes.com", India on 18th August 2011 : A Task Force team busted an education racket in the city on Tuesday night and arrested a 'counsellor' at Golkonda Vidya Parishad, and seized 60 fake educational certificates, two cellphones, two landlines, rubber stamps and other incriminating material from his possession. The two main accused in the case, however, are absconding. Following a tip-off, the Task Force team raided the office of Golkonda Vidya Parishad in APHB Colony, Mozamjahi Market and arrested P Naresh, 33,who used to help Syed Afsaruddin, 50, and his wife Haseena Fathima, 42, issue fake certificates to candidates who had no qualification. Naresh, who was earlier arrested for another crime, was in computer sales and peripherals business in Chirala, where he had incurred losses.

"thenews.com.pk", Pakistan on 16th August 2011 : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Hamid Ali Mirza has given deadline to Federal Minister Sardar Israr Ullah Zehri to prove the authenticity of his degree till September 24 failing which a case for fraud would be registered against him. The CEC has directed the employees of election commission that the case regarding bogus educational degrees might be finalized at an early date so that action may be taken against bogus degree holder parliamentarians under the instructions of the Supreme Court.

Bank official demoted over fake diplomas

"thanhniennews.com", Vietnam on 13th August 2011 : The Communist Party Unit of the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau has asked the state-owned Agribank to dismiss a vice director of its branch there for using a fake diploma and degree. Nguyen Ngoc Khai, who is also the acting director of the Agribank branch in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, was expelled from the Party unit as part of the same decision Friday. The provincial Party Unit committee said Khai, 52, used a fake high school diploma, a fake college degree and a fake English certificate as credentials for his job. Khai has denied any wrongdoing, according to the committee.

"abc.net.au", Australia on 09th August 2011 : A former staff member at Curtin University in Perth has been sentenced to two years' jail for taking bribes to falsify English test results for foreign students. Keith Low received about $25,000 over a one-year period to change the test results of about 20 students. The results were then used by the students in their applications for permanent residency and citizenship in Australia. His lawyer told the District Court that Low, 32, had no need for the money and his greed had simply got the better of him.

Police apprehends one more pilot with fake documents

"asianage.com", India on 04th August 2011 : The Delhi police has arrested one more person in connection with the fake flying licence scam which was unearthed by the crime branch in March this year. The accused, identified as Jigesh Patel, was arrested on Tuesday by a team of police personnel following a complaint by D.C. Sharma, director (training and licensing) of DGCA’s civil aviation department stating that Patel, a resident of Ahmedabad, had allegedly forged documents to procure a commercial pilot licence. Six more pilots are absconding in the case. The total number of people arrested in the scam has gone up to 21, including 12 pilots, three DGCA officials, two middlemen and two forgers. The Rajasthan police has also arrested two fake pilots since March 7 when the fake pilot scam was unearthed.

"indianexpress.com", India on 11th August 2011 : Following a complaint by Shiv Sena workers, the police on Wednesday arrested three women for allegedly running a fake degree racket in Thane. Vikas Repale of the Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Sena claimed he posed as a student and “bought” an MBA degree from the National Academy of Business Studies for Rs 75,000 without attending any class. The three accused – Seema Nair, Kavita Shashidharan and Arshi Khan – however, claimed their courses are AICTE-recognised and their institute is affiliated to St Peter’s University in Tamil Nadu.
