“The Times of India”, India on 24th February 2011: The anti-corruption bureau has caught red-handed a Vidhyarti Mitra (para teacher) in Ganganagar who demanded bribe from students for providing good numbers’ for practical examinations. Later it was proved that he was wrongly deputed as invigilator by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education for the practical examinations. The man – deputed on the recommendation of education department – prepared fake documents to become an invigilator.

US to think over opportunity for duped Indian students

“indiareport.com”, India on 23rd February 2011 : The US has assured India that innocent students of the fake Tri Valley University would get an opportunity to”re-adjust”their status or transfer to other US universities, government said today and expressed confidence that all such students would be relocated. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told Parliament that India had asked the US government that students who are themselves victims of fraud, should be given adequate time and opportunity to transfer to other universities.

Court puts off hearing in fake degree case

“dawn.com”, Pakistan on 22nd February 2011 : The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday put off hearing of a writ petition seeking disqualification of an MPA of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kishore Kumar, charged with possessing fake graduation degree. A two-member bench comprising Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and Justice Yahya Afridi, while allowing an application by counsel of Mr Kishore for adjourning the case, observed that during last hearing the court had clearly ordered that it would not allow any further adjournments in the case. The court fixed Mar 16 for next hearing.

Fake Degree holder in ministry granted extended interim bail

“thenews.com.pk”, Pakistan on 22nd February 2011 : Special Judge Central (SJC) Sohail Nasir on Monday accepted interim bail till February 28 of accused Zain Iftikhar Sukhera who got employment in the Ministry of Information and Technology on a fake degree. The court approved interim bail of the accused on surety bond of Rs100,000. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case under Sections 420, 468, 471, 419, 109 and 5(2) 47 PPC against Zain Iftikhar Sukhera on February 15.

“euroweeklynews.com”, Spain on 17th February 2011 : A man arrested in Adra in 2009 for practising medicine without a license has been allowed to take exams which could lead to him becoming a resident intern doctor (MIR). The 65-year-old, identified as Andres Avelino Palomino Barrios and known as ‘El Chino’, was arrested on charges of practising medicine using forged qualifications. In March, Guardia Civil launched an investigation when Andres was working as a paediatrician at Cordoba’s Valle de los Pedroches Regional Hospital in Pozoblanco. He had been employed by the hospital as a result of his impressive resume, which suggested that he had gained various degrees and diplomas in Peru, France and Spain.

“timeslive.co.za”, South Africa on 14th February 2011 : The council said that Valentine Ezulu, 35, who was arrested on Wednesday while on duty at the BJ Vorster Hospital, in Kareedouw, had verified documentation. Despite claims by the Hawks that Ezulu’s documents were fake, the council’s acting CEO, Marella O’Reilly, said Ezulu had written the board examination in March 2009. “Foreign practitioners’ qualifications are verified by the educational commission for foreign medical graduates,” said O’Reilly.

Those were the only qualifications Michelle Weiss needed to treat mentally disabled patients and teach college classes locally for two years. Weiss, 44, was admitted to the Broome County Correctional Facility this Tuesday on first-degree perjury charges after a nearly decade-long string of elaborate lies and falsifications that went undetected by public agencies.

“expressandstar.com” United Kingdom on 08th February 2011 : A woman who worked at a Midland hospital using a bogus qualification and got jobs and earned nearly £230,000 over nine years, saw an application to change her guilty pleas refused. Vinisha Sharma, of Willenhall, admitted using a fake Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from India to get work at a hearing in September. She tried to vacate her pleas to seven charges of fraud and forgery after sacking her lawyers. Her application was refused at Birmingham Crown Court by Judge Amjad Nawaz.

Fake Nurse may serve prison for five to six years

“Calgary Herald”, Canada on 08th February 2011 : A woman who used forged documents to get hired twice as a nurse and once as a teacher in Calgary should go to prison for five to six years, a judge was told on Tuesday. Crown prosecutor Vicki Faulkner told provincial court Judge Peter Barley that Brigitte Denise Marier, 38, is not only “a fraud artist who worms her ways into people’s lives and uses them for her benefit,” but is “unrepentant and even in sentencing tried to lie her way out” of a stiffer penalty…..In both cases, she submitted false provincial registration documents and resumes.

“The Swazi Observer”, Swaziland on 08th February, 2011 : Two teachers have been arrested for defrauding the Teaching Service Commission. Ntombifuthi Mavuso and Xolile Nana Makhubela, both 25, were teachers at Mnjoli Primary in the year 2008. It is alleged they used forged O’level certificates to get into the profession. They said they would hire a lawyer. Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini stated that they should tell their lawyer to ask bail for them at the High Court.
