“All Headline News”, USA on 26th January 2011 : A California graduate school instructor believed to have profited from fake military and academic credentials for a decade has been charged with mail fraud. According to a criminal complaint, William Hillar has been offering workshops, accepting paid speaking engagements and conducting training for government agencies under fraudulent pretences.

“Inside Higher Ed”, USA on 20th January 2011 : Pensacola State College on Tuesday fired a tenured professor, Robert Ardis, over allegations that he used a sabbatical to obtain a master’s degree from a diploma mill and then presented that degree to obtain a promotion and higher salary, The Pensacola News Journal reported. Ardis did not attend the meeting at which he was fired. A union representative who was at the meeting on his behalf said that he was still reviewing documents that might be the basis of a possible appeal and that Ardis “looks forward to his day in court.”

“The Telegraph India”, India on 19th January 2011 : If militants institute an award for those who take the mickey out of Jammu and Kashmir police, a frontrunner will be Devinder Kumar aka DK. DK, as he is better known, allegedly faked his qualification certificate to get a job in the state police more than a decade ago, got promoted to the post of head constable later and developed connections with some VIPs and top militants to make a quick buck. “He continued criminal activities for all these years and managed to get along unnoticed until he ran out of luck some months ago,” a police officer said.

“indlawnews.com”, India on 18th January 2011 : Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police have arrested chairman of a private education institute for allegedly providing a fake degree to the main accused in the July 11, 2006 Mumbai train bombings which had claimed over 200 lives and left more than 700 passengers wounded in local trains in the metropolis. Vijay Agarwal was arrested last night from his Gomti Nagar residence and was handed over to the Mumbai ATS, police sources here said. He had allegedly given a fake degree in Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) to Rahman Sheikh who later used it for obtaining other important documents.

Professor loses job for presenting a degree from diploma mill

“pnj.com”, USA on 18th January 2011 : Pensacola State College fired a tenured professor Tuesday amid allegations that he presented college administrators with an unaccredited master’s degree from an online diploma mill that he obtained while on a paid sabbatical. Robert Michael Ardis, 48, has 10 days to appeal to the college Board of Trustees for a hearing before the board and 14 days to file a grievance that would see the matter brought before an arbitrator under the faculty union contract.

Acting chairman in trouble for holding fake degree

“thenews.com.pk”, Pakistan on 19th Janaury 2011 : The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Tuesday directed the government to place name of acting chairman of Pakistan Steel (PS) Mills Imtiaz Lodhi on Exit Control List (ECL) for holding fake degree which he also produced at the time his appointment as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in Zarai Taraqqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) over four years back. The PAC members were astonished to hear that Lodhi whose ACCA degree was found fake on verification by ZTBL board on November 06, is currently holding prized post of acting chairman Pakistan Steel Mills.

“oneindia.in”, India on 15th January 2011 : A man who got a job of government teacher after furnishing a fake marksheet was today arrested, police said. Ashok Kumar Uike became assistant teacher of science in the Government Higher Secondary School at Dora here sometime back after furnishing a fake BSc course marksheet of Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, they said. On the basis on the fake degree, he also took admission in the law degree course and wrote the tests, police said.

Mr. Ahmed was elected from Punjab Assembly constituency PP-209. Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd.) Hamid Ali Mirza has directed the concerned district police officer (DPO) to register an FIR against the lawmaker.

“E-PAO”, India on 13th January 2011 : A departmental inquiry has been recommended against Director of Social Welfare, G Seityabati in connection with the appointment of not only an Anganwadi worker with fake certificates under Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) taken up by the Department but also giving her approval to issuing the same appointment order twice in a day……During the course of investigation, the Commission stumbled upon the case of an Anganwadi worker who was appointed on the basis of fake certificates and the Director giving her approval to issuing of the appointment order twice in a single day. In the DPC, recommendations were given for appointment of one N Akashini for Kairenbikhok Lamkhai Anganwadi Centre.

“The Times of India”, India on 11th January 2011 : An FIR has been lodged against two technical assistants with the Rajasthan Vidhyut Vitaran Nigam at Jyoti Nagar police station on Tuesday. The men got the jobs using fake degree certificates. They were working since eights months. According to the police, the two employees, Mahendra Singh and Phool Singh, presented fake ITI degrees. “They were on probation in the electricity department,” said Brajbhan Singh, the investigating officer.
