Minister founds former fund chief’s diploma as fake

“Focus Information Agency”, India on 26th November 2010 : Bulgaria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food made an urgent check-up on the information that the graduation diploma of former executive director of the State Agriculture Fund Kalina Ilieva is fake. Speaking to FOCUS News Agency Minister of Agriculture and Food Miroslav Naydenov explained that the ministry has addressed the Bulgarian consulate in Berlin and the German embassy in Sofia, as well as the administrative secretary of the University of Technology and Economics in Berlin, which Georgieva says she has graduated. “Unfortunately, it turns out that the information is true. I talked to the minister of education, since the ministry has legalized the fake diploma and launched procedure to clear out the issue,” Naydenov remarked.

MU found 342 fake documents, faces issues of filing cases

“Daily News & Analysis”, India on 27th November 2010 : The Mumbai university, which has detected 342 fake documents including degree certificates and marksheets, has alleged that the BKC police station is refusing to accept all cases, thereby delaying the matter. University officials have alleged that the police are asking the examination department to file each case in the respective police stations where the holder of the fake document lives. ……..On Friday too, university officials had to face lot of difficulties before the police lodged an FIR against one Sanjay Patel, who has been using a bogus Bachelor of Commerce marksheet, dated 1982.

Pakistan’s Election Commission warns legislators with fake degrees

“Business Recorder”, Pakistan on 29th November 2010 : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has warned the legislators alleged for having fake credentials of initiating one-sided proceedings against them if they failed to appear before its committee probing the matter here today (Monday). The special committee of the ECP will take up the cases of 13 parliamentarians including two provincial ministers in a bid to provide them an opportunity to justify their academic degrees. …….In this respect, Syed Aqil Shah, Minister for Sports from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Nadir Magsi, Minister for Food from Sindh have been summoned by the committee. The committee will also take up the cases of two senators from Balochistan including Mohabbat Khan Marri, who got invalid degree from University of Sindh and Rehana Yahya Baloch. Three members of National Assembly are appearing before the committee to justify their bogus degrees they include, Jawad Hussain of NA 39, Mazhar Hyatt from NA 138, and Muhammad Salman Mohsin from NA 165. Legislators from Punjab Assembly asked by the committee to appear include Siama Aziz, Syeda Majida Rizvi, Saima Khar and Samina Khawar Hayat. Bashir Ahmad Khan from PS 56 and Sardar Ali from PS 34 from Sindh will be appearing before the Committee to present argument in favour of their alleged bogus degrees.

“The Express Tribune”, Pakistan on 26th November 2010 : The Balochistan University examinations controller informed the Lahore High Court on Thursday that PML-N MNA Rana Zahid Hussain had lied about his intermediate certificate while registering for BA. This was stated in a written report submitted in the court with regard to a writ petition filed by Waheed Sabir, a voter from NA-166 Pakpattan, who challenged the academic qualification of the MNA. The report revealed that the university had sent Hussain’s intermediate certificate to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Karachi, for verification. ……….The controller said that the university’s exams department had asked the administration to set up a committee to probe the matter and take legal action against Hussain. The court adjourned hearing on the petition until December 7.

“dailycommercial.com”, USA on 25th November 2010 : Police Chief Mark Isom, the subject of a state investigation into college degrees he received from a diploma mill, will retire Dec. 31. Isom said Wednesday he’s had enough……Isom has been with the Fruitland Park Police Department for 27 years and chief for 21. Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators have been looking into a case against Isom since early this year.

Student arrested for submitting forged certificate

“express buzz”, India on 24th November 2010 : The fake marksheet scam raised its ugly head again on Tuesday, with a Plus One student being arrested on charges of submitting a forged Class X certificate to his school. About 10 days ago, Sathish Kumar,17, who is in Plus One in an Anglo-Indian higher secondary school on Anna Salai, was pulled up by his class teacher for being poor at his studies, a police officer told Express. “The teacher became suspicious as to how he managed to clear his Class X examination and took up the issue with the school headmaster,” he said. On suspicion, the headmaster sent Sathish Kumar’s marksheet to the Directorate of Government Examinations at Nungambakkam for verification. When the mark certificate was examined by the officials, they found that it was forged.

Chief flying inspector caught for issuing fake certificates

“The Times of India”, India on 24th November 2010 : Rajasthan’s Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested the now-defunct State Aviation School’s chief flying inspector, Mohindar Kumar, for allegedly issuing fake hours of flight time certificates to trainee pilots. Kumar’s arrest came a day after Jaipur airport’s assistant general manager, Manoj Jain, was arrested on similar charges. Police said the two were allegedly running a racket of issuing the fake certificates, a crucial factor for getting commercial pilot licenses (CPL). IG (ACB) Umesh Mishra said Jain is the main accused in the case and he worked in connivance with Kumar, who despite the flying school’s closure was issuing the certificates.

“CBC News” Canada on 22nd November 2010 : A woman convicted of posing as a nurse has been accused of impersonating a teacher. Calgary police charged Brigitte Marier on Friday with one count of fraud over $5,000, two counts of obstruction of justice and nine counts of uttering a forged document…….Marier has previously been convicted of forgery for stealing and falsifying a legitimate nurse’s registration certificate to get a job at an Ontario hospital in 2005. She was convicted a second time in September of forging documents to illegally get work as a nurse at a Calgary clinic.

“The Nation”, Pakistan on 22nd November 2010 : Out of 10 parliamentarians summoned by the Election Commission in fake degree cases only two appeared before the special court whereas four were absent and four members sent their representatives……During the hearing of the election commission on Monday member Balochistan assembly Mr. Abdul Samad Akuhnzada MPA (PB-7) appeared in person and presented relevant documents and Court’s judgments. He was informed by the Committee that the name of Madrassah from where he has got his certificate is not recognized with HEC.

PML-N MPA holds fake degree

“The Express Tribune”, Pakistan on 21st November 2010 : The University of Cambridge on Saturday declared the Advanced levels certificate of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Khawaja Islam as fake. The university also wrote to the Lahore High Court (LHC) in this regard. MPA Khawaja Islam is the president of PML-N Faisalabad region. He was elected MPA from constituency PP-72 in the 2008 general elections. The university authorities said that the A-level certificate of the MPA shows that it was granted to him in 1975 while the university had not initiated the programme at that time. Earlier, Khawaja Islam’s intermediate certificate was also found fake.

“NDTV”, India on 18th November 2010 : A 37-year-old man masquerading as Vice-Chancellor of various universities landed in police custody after a woman complained that he had taken Rs. 2.4 lakh from her family promising job and marriage. The accused, PV Sudheer, who has studied upto only tenth standard, was found to be having several fake degree certificates and letters from well-known persons, police said. Sudheer had taken money from several persons promising job in various universities, they said.

“informante”, Namibia on 18th November 2010 : Monitronic Success College is allegedly offering bogus degrees which it claims are accredited by the Midlands State University in Zimbabwe, Informante can reveal. The Midlands State University situated in Gweru, Zimbabwe’s second largest university, has since denied being in partnership with the college. Monitronic Success College has for years now been advertising that they are affiliated to the Midlands State University with the college’s principal and CEO Daniel Nyaungwa confirming it to Informante yesterday.
